Led by Dr. Gertrude Namale, the Medical Services Manager, and Ms. Hilda Achayo, the Head of Programs, our Care & Treatment team visited the homes of two resilient children, delivering not just holiday hampers, but also the specialized, compassionate care that defines our mission.
Our visits reminded us that while medicine saves lives, it is hope, family, and community that help a child truly thrive.
Household A: Kusiima, Our Hopeful Child
For Kusiima (not real name), the past year has been a season of transition. Having been on ART for one year, Kusiima recently faced the profound loss of a mother. During that difficult time, a close family friend stepped in as a guardian angel, providing the care and encouragement needed to keep the family going.
Currently, there is a new chapter. Kusiima’s father has reconnected with the family and is now proudly paying school fees. While we celebrate this family reunion, our team is staying close to provide psychosocial support to help Kusiima heal from grief, alongside steady adherence monitoring to keep their health on track.

Household B: Strength in the Face of Adversity: Mukisa’s Journey
At 12 years old, Mukisa (not real name) shows us what true bravery looks like. Living with an uncle for the last three years while their father battles alcohol addiction, Mukisa has remained committed to treatment. We were heartened to see that a local health worker is delivering medication right to the door, ensuring not a single dose is missed.

Despite this clinical success, Mukisa is currently out of school, and the household is facing the heavy burden of food insecurity.
We believe every child belongs in the classroom. Our next steps will involve economic strengthening and nutritional support to ensure Mukisa’s belly is full and their mind is growing in school once again.
“Walking into these homes, we don’t just see patients; we see the future of our community. Bringing hope to their doorstep is the greatest gift we can give.” — Ms. Hilda Achayo noted.

ROM remains committed to holistic approach: Nutrition & Food Security to power healthy bodies, Education Reintegration to empower bright minds, Psychosocial Care to nurture resilient spirits and Economic Strengthening to build stable, lasting homes.
