Empowering Adolescent Girls and Young Women through Tiko

Reach Out Mbuya Community Health Initiative (ROM) teamed up with Tiko, a digital health and social impact organization that connects young people to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information and services through innovative digital platforms. Together, they hosted a high-energy Young Adolescent Peer Supporters (YAPS) performance review and refresher training, bringing young peer supporters and their facility supervisors into one space to learn, align, and grow.

Designed to be youth-centered and practical, the training focused on empowering peer supporters to take charge of their work and build stronger connections with their clients. Peers refreshed their skills in client tracking, counselling, follow-up, and documentation, while supervisors focused on improving coordination and mentorship to ensure faster linkages and more consistent support across facilities.

Through interactive discussions, group exercises, and real-life case sharing, participants identified practical solutions to everyday challenges . These included managing data gaps, improving client retention and strengthening youth-friendly service delivery.

The teams also developed clear, time-bound action plans tailored to each facility to sustain progress beyond the training.

The highlight? A renewed sense of purpose and energy among the young peer supporters. Many expressed confidence in their ability to help their peers make informed decisions about their health and stay committed to treatment. Supervisors, on the other hand, appreciated the opportunity to strengthen collaboration and streamline communication with their YAPS teams.

The big win: young people now feel more in control of their sexual and reproductive health choices, while health teams have cut reporting gaps, improved data quality, and built a shared playbook for youth-friendly, client-centred care.

About Tiko:
Tiko is a global platform powered by the non-profit Triggerise, designed to inspire and reward positive health-seeking behaviours among young people. Through a combination of digital tools, community linkages, and youth engagement, Tiko connects adolescents to trusted SRH and HIV services, while collecting real-time data to improve program outcomes.
