What about you?\u201d<\/strong> The event marked a significant milestone in advancing accessible, comprehensive, and inclusive healthcare services for all.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"606\" data-end=\"888\">The two-day camp brought together medical teams, community members, and partners for a shared mission \u2014 to promote early health-seeking behaviour and expand access to essential services, including <strong data-start=\"803\" data-end=\"842\">Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)<\/strong> for individuals battling opioid dependence.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"890\" data-end=\"1301\"><strong data-start=\"890\" data-end=\"929\">Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)<\/strong> is an evidence-based approach that combines approved medications with counselling and psychosocial support to help individuals manage opioid use disorder effectively. The treatment not only reduces withdrawal symptoms and cravings but also helps prevent relapse, lowers the risk of overdose, and reduces transmission of blood-borne infections such as HIV and hepatitis.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1303\" data-end=\"1689\">During the camp, participants received free medical consultations, HIV testing and counselling, reproductive health services, and access to MAT for those eligible and ready to begin treatment. Eligibility is based on an individual\u2019s readiness to stop opioid use, and services are currently available at <strong data-start=\"1606\" data-end=\"1645\">Butabika National Referral Hospital<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1650\" data-end=\"1686\">Mbale Regional Referral Hospital<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1691\" data-end=\"2083\">Speaking during the camp, <strong data-start=\"1717\" data-end=\"1738\">Dr. Komuhangi Liz<\/strong>, from ROM\u2019s MAT team, explained that the program provides a holistic pathway to recovery by addressing both the medical and psychological aspects of addiction.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1691\" data-end=\"2083\">\u201cMAT uses medications such as Methadone and Buprenorphine alongside counselling to help people regain control of their lives, reduce cravings, and stabilize their health,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"2085\" data-end=\"2391\">The camp was well-received by community members, many of whom appreciated the opportunity to access quality care without stigma or barriers.
