Growing up in a family of six, raised by a single mother after her father passed, Doreen completed Senior Four in 2021 and put school on hold so her younger siblings could continue. What she didn\u2019t pause was her ambition.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Savings gave me discipline and confidence. I stopped doubting myself and started planning. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17.6px;\">When <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 17.6px;\">SHE SOARS<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 17.6px;\"> came to Katoogo with the village women representative, Doreen learned about <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 17.6px;\">SRHR<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 17.6px;\"> and the power of <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 17.6px;\">saving with a plan<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 17.6px;\">. She joined <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 17.6px;\">The Winners<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 17.6px;\">\u2014a <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 17.6px;\">Youth Savings and Loan Association (YSLA)<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 17.6px;\"> of 20 members\u2014and completed <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 17.6px;\">Selection, Planning &amp; Management (SPM)<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 17.6px;\"> training to start and manage a micro-business.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>No fridge, no frills\u2014just focus.<\/strong> With her savings, Doreen skipped the impulse buys and launched a <strong>refreshments business<\/strong>: soda, bottled water, yoghurt, passion fruit juice, ice, and <strong>boiled pineapple peel juice (omunanansi)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On a good day, she makes <strong>up to UGX 15,000 in sales<\/strong>, tracking every coin with simple bookkeeping\u2014what\u2019s borrowed, what\u2019s lent, what\u2019s reinvested.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The results have been real and personal. She now <strong>covers her basic needs<\/strong> (pads, shoes), contributes to her savings group, and speaks up with newfound <strong>confidence and assertiveness<\/strong>. In <strong>November 2025<\/strong>, she stepped into a bigger role\u2014<strong>Community-Based Trainer (CBT) at Reach Out Mbuya<\/strong> under SHE SOARS\u2014returning to youth groups formed by peer educators to <strong>mentor others<\/strong> in saving, independence, and <strong>SPM-based<\/strong> business skills.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I mentor from experience\u2014save first, plan smart, then grow.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Next stop: Boss-Lady energy.<\/strong> Doreen is mapping her next venture: a shop selling <strong>electronics essentials<\/strong> (cables, wires, extension cords, protective gear for installers). She spotted a clear <strong>market gap<\/strong> in her community\u2014thanks to SPM\u2019s business identification tools\u2014and is saving toward start-up stock.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thank you to ROM and the SHE SOARS project for bringing financial literacy to our community.
