Nabuuma\u00a0Prossy, a 19-year-old young mother, shares her inspiring journey of transformation through\u00a0Reach\u00a0Out Mbuya Community Health Initiative (ROM) under\u00a0the SHE\u00a0SOARS project. Despite financial constraints that initially prevented her from\u00a0acquiring\u00a0vocational skills, Nabuuma\u2019s life changed significantly after joining the program. She is now\u00a0utilizing\u00a0her hairdressing skills to support herself and care for her newborn son.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Baseline Situation<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Before joining SHE SOARS, Nabuuma was at home without a stable source of income. An opportunity arose unexpectedly when she\u00a0registered\u00a0for the program during a community outreach session.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI registered and began life skills training at the Uganda Skateboard Union Skate Park in Kitintale. I chose hairdressing because it had always been on my mind, but I did not have the money to sponsor myself,\u201d she recalls<\/span><\/i><\/b>.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Adding,<\/p>\n

“The trainers taught us thoroughly, and even while still in training, I began practicing at my sister Suzan\u2019s salon, Suzie\u2019s Beauty Salon in Kitintale. It gave me an early opportunity to gain hands-on experience,” she notes.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Nabuuma has been working at the salon for the past three\u00a0months, steadily gaining practical experience. She also joined a savings group, but after experiencing a setback when funds were stolen, she opted to join a smaller, village-based savings group for greater security.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite these challenges, Nabuuma\u00a0remains\u00a0committed to her work.\u00a0She notes that affordability is a key factor in her community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOn a good day, I can style three clients\u2019 hair, depending on their hairstyles. People here prefer affordable services,”<\/span><\/i><\/b> she shares.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Today, Nabuuma serves multiple clients daily. Through this opportunity, she has not only gained confidence and hands-on experience but also learned to balance her new responsibilities as a mother to her one-month-old son.<\/span> \u00a0<\/span>Looking ahead, Nabuuma has set clear goals for both her personal and professional growth<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
