The toys are meant to benefit children who visit ROM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The children\nplay center at ROM is a place specifically\ndesigned to enable children play and interact with each other.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the Play center,\nplay therapy is done through utilization of different playing materials, drawings\nand writing stories which helps us assess the mental psychosocial and social\nstatus of the children. Through their drawings we are able to identify issues\nof violence. This can be shown in the way\nthey play with the dolls, gestures and actions like; beating up the dolls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;As the children play, we are able to identify\nproblems they go through at home or school.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This strategy\nworks well for those who do not talk much and are shy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In such\ncases, ROM refers the children to the appropriate section for support example;\ncounselling, Gender Based Violence and school fees. After identifying the issue\nand intervening accordingly we ensure the child remains safe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of\nthese play sessions the children are always happy and often cannot wait for\ntheir next visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ROM thanks\nShoprite Uganda for their generosity and continued support towards our Children\nPlay center.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Sarah Nassolo.
