It is in line with this that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reachoutmbuya.org\/\">Reach Out Mbuya Parish HIV \/AIDS Initiative (ROM)<\/a> with support from the Stephen Lewis Foundation held the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/events\/olderpersonsday\/\">International Day of Older Persons<\/a> on December 13, 2019 at Kasaala-Luwero district. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event brought together a broad range of\nstakeholders including; grandmothers, local council leaders, government\nofficials, ROM staff, youth and children and was crowned with mass led by Rev.\nFr.&nbsp; George Previdi who in his message\ncalled for trustworthiness and prayer to Mother Mary to intercede for us.&nbsp; He mentioned that the old are not able to do\na lot, but they are capable of praying for others.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reachoutmbuya.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/DSC_0065-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3528\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.reachoutmbuya.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/DSC_0065-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.reachoutmbuya.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/DSC_0065-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.reachoutmbuya.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/DSC_0065-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.reachoutmbuya.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/DSC_0065.jpg 1732w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Grandmothers exhibit some of\nthe natural herbal products they make.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The grandmothers also displayed various skills in\npresentation, creativity and business management through exhibitions. In her\npresentation the representatives of the grandmothers mentioned that before the\ncoming of the Stephen Lewis Project, they had no support, they would languish\nfrom disease and luck of basic needs but now we receive medicines, mosquito\nnets, goats, mattresses to mention but a few.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Executive Director of Reach Out Mbuya Parish HIV\/AIDS Initiative, Josephine Kaleebi commended the grandmothers for teaching the rest a lot about preparation for retirement and old age.&nbsp;&nbsp; She called for those who have benefited from the knowledge they receive during the trainings to teach others.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chairman board Mr. Katureebe Kizito suggested,\nthat there is need for a local fund for sustainability of the support given to\nthe elderly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his response, the guest of honor the Chief Administrative Officer Godfrey Kuruhira Akiiki, said his team is working to ensure services for the elderly are  offered without them making lines. Fr. George Previdi.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">According to the World Health Organization,\nthe\nworld\u2019s population is ageing at a fast pace. By 2050 one in five people will be\nover 60. The number of aged over 80 is projected to triple from 143 million in\n2019 to 426 million in 2050.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;This calls for the need to improve care for the elderly and empower them in all dimensions of development, including promoting their active participation in the social, economic and political lives as a way to ensure their inclusiveness and reduce inequalities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ROM under the grandmothers\u2019 project is implements the project to improve the well -being of grandmothers and their households through the grandmother\u2019s clinic that operates weekly where the grandmothers receive free medical care.
