During the Young Mothers\u2019 training, she was able to know her status and\npromised not to engage in such risky behavior again. &nbsp;\u201cI encourage young girls to remain in school\nand those who have children already to find a decent source of living to\nsupport their families,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joy is under the\nyoung mother\u2019s program initiated by Reach Out Mbuya Parish HIV \/AIDS Initiative.\nThe program aims at empowering vulnerable girls who are often victims of\nteenage pregnancies, to cope with the situations and in the end, they are able\nto give birth to healthy and HIV free babies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;ROM often offers sessions on parenting, HIV prevention, Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission, Adherence, Financial empowerment through Village Saving and Loans Association (VSLA) and Gender Based Violence (GBV) to the young mothers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the sessions,\nthe young mothers are also encouraged to know their HIV status and are offered\nfree HIV counselling and testing&nbsp;&nbsp; to\nprevent transmission of the virus to their unborn babies in case found positive.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through these avenues\u2019 ROM is able to reach out to the vulnerable girls who in turn pass on the information received to their spouses and other teenagers in their communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reachoutmbuya.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/young-mother-testing-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3558\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.reachoutmbuya.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/young-mother-testing-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.reachoutmbuya.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/young-mother-testing-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.reachoutmbuya.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/young-mother-testing-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.reachoutmbuya.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/young-mother-testing.jpg 1430w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A young mother receiving HIV testing by a ROM counselor<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The PMTCT Focal person in Reach Out takes young mothers through a session on maternal health and prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT) By Venus Okello Amo Joy 18 years old (not real name), testified to having many boyfriends who supported her with money.
