Young people often face challenges in decision-making and maintaining focus due to distractions and limited guidance. This affects their ability to plan, stay disciplined, and build purposeful lives.
To address this burden, Reach Out Mbuya Community Health Initiative (ROM) held a Holiday Forum for Young People on 13th April 2026 to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions, manage their time and resources effectively, and build a purposeful future. Themed “Taking Control: Building an Organized and Purposeful Life,” the forum equipped participants with skills in planning and personal organization, time and money management, decision-making and problem-solving, self-discipline and goal setting and practical steps for improving daily life. The forum contributes to ROM’s Strategic focus area two, on transforming the extremely vulnerable served to dignified living.
During the Time Management and Daily Organization session facilitated by social worker Ms. Gertrude Atyero, participants explored how daily choices shape long-term outcomes and the importance of productivity. Ms. Atyero encouraged a systematic approach to life, reminding participants that every action has consequences.

“Productivity determines the quality of your future. Make a list of your daily tasks and the time spent on each, focus on one task at a time, and avoid unnecessary postponement,” she challenged the participants.
The session also covered money management, budgeting, saving, avoiding debt, decision-making, and discipline through practical activities and discussions.
The self-awareness and life vision session led by Ms. Mary Nanyomo a life skill mentor, encouraged participants to reflect deeply on their personal identity and future direction.
“Know yourself before the world defines you,” she told participants, guiding them through discussions on strengths, weaknesses, habits, personal goals and distractions.
