With support from the Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF), Reach Out Mbuya has successfully empowered grandmothers in Luweero and Kampala districts to live resilient independent lives.  These form groups through which they are trained with entrepreneurial skills and given start up projects to be able to meet the daily needs of their households. Many have received goats, pigs, vegetables and domestic birds and other projects, which has improved their health and incomes.

In addition to that, the grandmothers and a few of the grandfathers who joined the groups are given social support to cope with the challenges of old age. Apart from meeting with peers in their groups to share life experience, the ‘girls’ and ‘boys’ also gather during the Day of older persons where they feast, sing, dance and recite poems. This in return help relieve some of the stress that would quickly reduce their lifetime.
