Skills development for Adolescent Girls & Young Women

To empower the Adolescent Girls and Young Women in Kampala and Luweero districts, ROM has continuously given opportunities in vocational training such as tailoring and catering.

True service above self: Rotary Club donates sewing machines to Roses of Mbuya

On March 22nd, the Rotary Club of Kampala West donated 20 sewing machines to members of Roses of Mbuya, a skills development arm at Reach Out Mbuya that emphasizes entrepreneurial skills for Adolescent Girls and Young Women.

23-year-old Anita Nabimanya, one of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Rotarians for always lending a helping hand to those in need.

I have grown up from Reach Out Mbuya. They paid my fees from primary one to senior four and also gave me an opportunity to learn tailoring from Roses of Mbuya. and after, I was given a sewing machine. With these skills, I have managed to raise money to look after my child and mother.” Anita said.

Hon. Mike Kennedy Sebalu, a Rotary District Governor was the chief guest. He urged the girls who received the machines to learn from Anita’s story and build their lives. He also thanked the Rotarians for making a lasting impact in the lives of the young women.

85 Adolescent Girls &Young Women trained in entrepreneurship at Kasaala, Luweero District

With the objective to build positive relationships and foster a sustainable economic mind-set, Reach Out Mbuya organized a one-day camp at St. Mary’s Vocational Training Institute, in which 85 Adolescent and Young women from different villages were given entrepreneurship skills. In their groups, the AGYW learnt the importance of establishing and developing clear visions, setting goals and being proactive, problem solving, communication and drawing an action plan.
