Reach Out Mbuya Parish HIV/AIDS Initiative received toys for the children play center from Shoprite Uganda on 25 Nov 2019 as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility. The toys are meant to benefit children who visit ROM.

The children play center at ROM is a place specifically designed to enable children play and interact with each other.

At the Play center, play therapy is done through utilization of different playing materials, drawings and writing stories which helps us assess the mental psychosocial and social status of the children. Through their drawings we are able to identify issues of violence. This can be shown in the way they play with the dolls, gestures and actions like; beating up the dolls.

As the children play, we are able to identify problems they go through at home or school.

This strategy works well for those who do not talk much and are shy.

In such cases, ROM refers the children to the appropriate section for support example; counselling, Gender Based Violence and school fees. After identifying the issue and intervening accordingly we ensure the child remains safe.

At the end of these play sessions the children are always happy and often cannot wait for their next visit.

ROM thanks Shoprite Uganda for their generosity and continued support towards our Children Play center.
